Protecting Filipino Children: A Call to Action Against Online Abuse

The 2025 National Children's Month Celebration in the Philippines is a crucial initiative, especially with its theme focusing

on ending online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) and child sexual abuse or exploitation materials (CSAEM). It's heartening to see the government prioritizing the safety and rights of children.

The Philippine government has been taking steps to protect children from online abuse.

For instance, the country has enacted laws like the Republic Act No. 9775, also known as the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, and the Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which aim to prevent and penalize online child exploitation. Additionally, the government has established agencies like the Council for the Welfare of Children and the Department of Justice's Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center to tackle these issues.

To further improve, the government should focus on strengthening law enforcement, conducting awareness and education

campaigns, and providing support for victims of online abuse. This includes providing more training and resources for law enforcement agencies, educating children, parents, and communities about online safety, and offering counseling, medical assistance, and protection for victims. Let's hope that these efforts will lead to a safer and more protected environment for Filipino children.
